Club Announcements
| Hey folks.
Weather data is online. This just came together, so there may be some hiccups...if you see a lack of data, please email me so I can look into solving the problem to make the system more robust in the future. Big thanks to Warren for doing a ton of troubleshooting and patching buggy wview code.
For the moment, we are just streaming to weather underground and using their charts. We have a simple/short idea for doing our own custom charts on our own site...if you want to be involved, let me know.
Thanks!
-Matt Probert

New Intermediate Dinghy Lesson!
For all of you who have taken a novice class, take this class taught by Cedric Chenal.
It's two consecutive Sundays, August 16 and 23 and it will help you:
-make your tacks and jibes smoother and more efficient
-make your boat go faster by teaching you where to put your weight in the boat and how to adjust the sail controls
-if there's enough wind, you can test for your intermediate rating as well

Wind Speeds
Want to check the wind before coming to the docks? Try these sites, recommended by members as reliable sources of wind data.
Boater Information System from the Applied Physics Lab at UW.
Weather Underground's data from a weather station at Magnuson.
Sailflow's wind predictions, from the same weather station in Magnuson but including a computer model prediction for the future.

Work Parties are Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:30 at the Waterfront Activities Center. All skill levels are welcome. We encourage you to come to at least one work party this season to learn hands-on boat repair. |

Friday Night Laser Racingis every Friday at 6 PM. Meet at the WAC and rig a boat for low-key friendly club racing on the bay, open to sailors of any level. It's a great way to improve your sailing skills, learn the basics of sailboat racing, and have fun on the water, even in very little wind. The short, loosely structured races will last until sunset but you can come and go at any time. |
